Chicago Bears superstar running back and NFL legend Walter Payton, also known as Sweetness, is considered one of the best football players in history. Payton, loved in Chicago and across sports, died at the young age of 45 in 1999 due to liver cancer.
Author Jeff Pearlman's new biography on the superstar covers the life of Payton, the good and not-so-good and it's the not-so-good parts that have created controversy because of the natural reaction by many to avoid any negative commentary on someone who meant so much to Chicago, football and sports.
Watch the interviews below with Pearlman on Payton, the book, controversy and reaction. Pearlman says as more people read the book in context, they will still see a superstar legend, but who also had flaws and had challenges like many others.
